About Miyazaki, Japan

Miyazaki City is the capital of Miyazaki prefecture on Kyushu Island, and is known for its cultural heritage and natural splendor. It is located between forrested hills to the west and beach access to the Pacific Ocean to the east. The city鈥檚 historical sites, such as Miyazaki Jingu shrine, stand as testaments to Japan鈥檚 deep-rooted cultural legacy, inviting exploration into centuries-old customs and beliefs. It is a very livable city where you can really immerse yourself in everyday Japanese life.

The climate in Miyazaki is mild in the fall. It is much warmer than Tokyo:

  • October: Average highs of 76 F and lows of 65 F
  • November: Average highs of 68 F and lows of 56 F

You will study at Miyazaki Municipal University (MMU), located in walking distance of the downtown area. MMU is a private university with a student population of about 1,000 students. You'll live with 3 roommates in student apartments owned by the university, and located within a five minute walk to campus. Your roommates will be from the study abroad cohort and you will have a chance to meet them and share your living preferences with us before departure.
